Game of Thrones: Intellectual stimulation, and writing prompts

If you can ever watch it!  HBO is killing me!  I keep looking for it and it's never there.  I thought Season 2 for Game of Thrones was supposed to start in this month, in November.  Instead, it seems that it may be as far away as April, 2012 before the start of Season 2!  Are you kidding me?

I was hoping that this series would take the edge off of missing True Blood (the next season for that one doesn't start until Summer, 2012).

I have really grown to like Game of Thones.  It is a relatively new Series on HBO that is based on the best-selling novel series by George R. R. Martin, A Song of Ice and Fire.  I have not read the books which, by the way, can easily "Whispernet" over to your Kindle.  While the sight of those books does make me salivate, I don't want the books to spoil my complete ignorance of this, WORLD.  This oddly believable fantasy world is like a cross between the setting of Walter Scott's Ivanhoe and the thread-torn land of Anne McCaffrey's Pern! 

I must admit, you need a little bit of intelligence to enjoy this series -- because you do need to pay attention; it's not just mindless entertainment.  Once you have the gist of things, then you need to just let yourself go and be there!  I did.  Now I'm homesick!  :p

If you have not seen it yet, you should try it.  You can watch in on TV if you have access to HBO on Demand or on the Internet at HBO GO.  Um, if you're a writer, it wouldn't hurt to have pen and paper in hand!

And We're Off!

Well, maybe not all of us.  So far I've been working on how to make my story pull together with all of its many parts and I have not really written anything.  I need structure.  I hate to admit it, but I do.  I could start out without it but now that I'm feeling my story, it needs some framework! 

Larry Brooks over at StoryFix.com actually pulled together 31 posts that he wrote in October (one every day), in anticipation of the beginning of NaNoWriMo on November 1st.  I was so happy when he announced that he would do this because I was printing and carrying around a lot of blog posts.

I've been reading Larry's StoryFix blog for quite some time now and, as much as I hate to admit to the need for structure, I hate the word "pantser" even more!  Mr. Brooks says, "a 'pantser' is someone who writes by the seat-of-their-pants.  I have grown to really despise that word!

As odd as it is to say this about a published writer, I am very proud of Larry Brooks and that he has done this!  I say this especially because he was not a NaNoWriMo supporter at all; in fact, he was anything but!  This year, he has taken it upon himself to share with all of us.  You've got to love someone who shows a genuine interest in helping other writers and wanna-be novelists. 

Now it's on my Kindle!  Hooray!

A Place to Talk

There are times when you want to write, and times when you want to talk, and times when you want to talk about writing.  Then you want to dream out loud about where your writing will take you and if you will ever be able to call yourself a published author.  It is times like this that you look to sites like Blogger to just take it easy on your techie nerves so you can focus on your passion.

I love November!  This is a perfect time to start a blog like this since we are less than 24 hours away from NaNoWriMo, 2011!  Hooray!  I wait all year for November -- for just this reason!  You know you're a nerd when...  Thanksgiving is wonderful and it kicks off the holiday season as we Americans know it, but it just wouldn't be November without the writing abandon of NanoWriMo and the thought-provoking Mexican celebration, Dia de los Muertos.  Yeah, I'm that weird.

I must say, I like this Blogger blog thing.  Easy, no problems, no brain required -- it's awesome!  I hope people will talk to me soon, but, they will have to find me first.
